Fantasy owners had high hopes for Ben Roethlisberger in 2019. He finished as QB3 the year prior, leading the league in passing yards (5,129), and he had an average draft position (ADP) of QB 11 as a result. The loss of Antonio Brown was a concern, but most believed he would be a solid fantasy option once again.

Unfortunately, midway through Week 2, Roethlisberger suffered an injury that would knock him out for the rest of the year. Now entering his age-38 season, Roethlisberger looks like a really risky investment in 2020.

On the bright side, most reports seem to indicate that Roethlisberger will be healthy entering the season, but even a healthy Roethlisberger could struggle to crack the top-12 QBs.

We still haven't seen him play a full season without Brown since 2010, and outside of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Pittsburgh doesn't have many proven pass-catchers. His tight ends, Vance McDonald and Eric Ebron, are both talented, though they've each been plagued by injuries and inconsistent play.

Outside of JuJu, Roethlisberger's best options at WR will likely be James Washington and Diontae Johnson – neither of whom broke even 750 receiving yards last season.

Additionally, the Steelers' defense is among the league's best, surrendering just 18.9 points per game last season, which was tied for the fifth-best mark in the NFL. That could lead to a lot of low-scoring games, and fewer pass attempts for Roethlisberger.

He's best viewed as a solid backup, but he likely won't be a viable QB1 option in the 2020 season.
