Bears Rumors Point to Massive Contract Extension on the Horizon
By Larry Rupp

The Chicago Bears have successfully leaned on a strong defense for years now and the efforts of linebacker Roquan Smith have been a big reason why. Fans will be glad to hear that ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler expects contract extension talks between Smith and the front office to soon heat up.
Chicago Bears News
Fowler has heard from other Bears players close to free agency that new general manager Ryan Poles has put an emphasis on keeping Smith around for foreseeable future. The two-time All-Pro is expected to become one of the highest paid players at his position in the NFL with a new deal.
Smith's salary could push upward of $20 million on an annual basis, but it's not like he hasn't proven worthy of that. The 25-year-old has racked up 524 tackles (43.0 for loss), 14.0 sacks, 17 pass breakups, 5 interceptions and 1 forced fumble over his first four seasons (61 games played).
The fact that Smith has been showing up to the Bears offseason workouts is yet another sign that he wants to stay in Chicago. He could be in for an extended role in 2022 as head coach Matt Eberflus continues to stress the idea of laying the groundwork for a new and dangerous defensive scheme.
When it comes down to it, finding a way to make sure Smith remains on the team should be a top priority for the Bears, especially considering pass rusher Khalil Mack is no longer on the roster. Chicago currently has odds set at +10000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
