Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is coming off of a MVP season, but it certainly seems like the relationship between him and the Green Bay Packers is still not perfect. In fact, an anonymous agent claimed it is Rodger's current contract that is keeping the team from signing free agents.

Rodgers is due a base salary of $14.7 million for the 2021 season, but a majority of that could be turned into a roster bonus to clear up cap space. However, that is where things become more difficult because doing so would tie money to Rodgers through the 2022 season.

Aaron Rodgers Contract Situation

The standoff here basically comes down to whether or not the team is looking to move on from Rodgers in the near future and elevate quarterback Jordan Love or not. The current contract allows the team to make that decision on a year-to-year basis and it has worked out so far.

Rodgers seems to be more motivated out on the field and itching to prove he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. However, the Packers have lost in two consecutive NFC Championship games and can't seem to get over the hump into the Super Bowl.

Simply put, there is no clear-cut easy solution. The team is stuck without a lot of cap space to sign free agents. They were able to bring back starting running back Aaron Jones, but have not been able to find the help they need at other positions of need (WR, DB, etc.).

This is a storyline worth keeping an eye on as we get closer and closer to the next NFL season kicking off.
