A Steelers Reunion With This Former Star Linebacker Would Make a Ton of Sense

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the best young defenses in the NFL, and that's led by their linebackers. Between T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree on the outside and Vince Williams and Devin Bush on the inside, their starting lineup is set.

With three of the four being younger than 28 years old, though, a veteran presence could certainly go a long way. And one Pittsburgh Steelers writer has a great suggestion: Lawrence Timmons.

The idea may seem crazy at first, as Timmons hasn't played an NFL snap since December 31, 2017. But the former Steeler only just had his 34th birthday in May, so he might still have something left in the tank.

His 84 tackles in Miami were a big drop from what Steelers fans were accustomed to seeing (at least 105 every year from 2012 to 2016), but he didn't exactly seem committed to the Dolphins, even being suspended for going missing from the team during the season.

Timmons was a mainstay of the Pittsburgh defense for nearly a decade, starting 124 games across eight seasons from 2009 to 2016. He racked up 983 tackles as a Steeler, as well as 35.5 sacks, 83 quarterback hits and 43 pass defenses.

Timmons went to two Super Bowls and finished first place in the AFC North five times with the Steelers. He knows what it takes to win, and he'd be a valuable presence in the locker room.
