St. Mary's Gaels shocked the college basketball world by beating No. 1-ranked Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament championship game in convincing fashion last night. While it remains to be seen what kind of impact this will have on the Bulldogs' seeding in the big dance, their odds to win the NCAA title already taken a hit.

Before last night's loss, Gonzaga had +650 odds to win the NCAA Tournament, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but its odds have since fallen to +700, a virtual tie with the Virginia Cavaliers for the second-best odds to cut down the nets. Duke remains the favorite at +240.

It's not the biggest drop, but it's clear that the loss impacted bookmakers' confidence in the Bulldogs.

Gonzaga has been a perennial contender since Adam Morrison put them on the map in the 2005-06 season, but they've never won an NCAA championship. Their best result was a loss in the 2016-17 championship game to UNC, the Bulldogs' only Final Four appearance in the school's history.

As a result, they've developed a reputation as a program that's always in contention, but never comes through when it seems to matter most. This loss to St. Mary's certainly doesn't dispel that notion.

Despite Duke's struggles without star player Zion Williamson, the Blue Devils are still the heavy favorites to win the 2019 NCAA Tournament. But their title chances will undoubtedly be impacted by Zion's performance and return during the ACC Tournament

While it's likely an overreaction to judge Gonzaga based off one loss, the Bulldogs should still make a run during March Madness and their odds still project them as the second best team in the country. But only time will tell if Gonzaga can finally get that championship monkey off of its figurative back.
