The Minnesota Golden Gophers are poised to return to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time since head coach Richard Pitino took over the team in the 2013-14 season. Following an upset win over No. 11 Purdue earlier this week, the Golden Gophers are now just one win away from a 20-win season, which would all but guarantee them a trip to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.

Minnesota gets its first shot at a 20th win tonight at No. 24 Maryland as 7-point road underdogs, according to FanDuel SportsbookThe Terrapins won the first matchup between these two this season, 82-67.

Before deciding who you're placing a bet on tonight, let's see what a few experts have to say about this Big Ten matchup.

Minnesota vs Maryland Prediction

Sports Chat Place

The team at Sports Chat Place believes that the Golden Gophers will be able to cover the spread, even if they don't come up with the victory. Minnesota has been competitive, even in their losses, and is trying to prove itself to the committee.

Cappers Picks

Matthew Lowrimore, of Cappers Picks, is going with the Terrapins to win and cover with a projected final score of 70-62. He thinks that Maryland is the better team and points out that they should have lots of motivation to secure the win and a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament.

New York Post

The New York Post is also rolling with the Terrapins to win and cover on Friday night, citing a likely bounce back for Maryland after losing back-to-back games. There's also the aspect of this being a potential letdown game for the Golden Gophers after securing a massive win against Purdue on Tuesday.

Tony's Picks

Tony Tellez likes the Golden Gophers to cover the spread since they've been able to keep games close on the road as of late, and he also notes that Maryland has lost two straight.

ESPN Basketball Power Index

ESPN's BPI gives the Terrapins an 82.7 percent chance to defeat Minnesota in College Park.

Overall that's three-of-five picks on the Terrapins to win straight up, but against the spread the experts are split down the middle at two apiece.
