Best Week 5 NFL Survivor Pool Picks

Given how unpredictable the NFL has been these last few weeks, making it to Week 5 (barring a buy-back) is quite the accomplishment in a survivor pool. Nearly half of the games on this slate have a spread of -3 or fewer, so it won't be an easy selection once again. Let's take a look at the best options.

3. New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos - Sunday, 1:00 p.m. EST

Yes, the same Jets that haven't won since the opener, but let's remember they opened the season with a span of three games in 11 days and a matchup on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The time is actually the key here, as the Broncos will have to travel East and lose two hours changing time zones on a short week of preparation. Broncos quarterback Case Keenum hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in each of his last three games, so this vaunted Jets defense should be chomping at the bit.

2. Los Angeles Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders - Sunday, 4:05 p.m. EST

Sure, the Raiders are coming off their first win of the season, but I expect this Chargers team to get refocused after a narrow win against the San Francisco 49ers. Philip Rivers and Melvin Gordon have led the passing and running games, respectively, to much success. The Chargers have posted the ninth-most total yards in the NFL through Week 4 while the Raiders have allowed the sixth-most.

1. New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts - Thursday, 8:20 p.m.

This might be the easiest layup of the week, that is, if you haven't used Brady and the boys yet. There's a good chance you haven't, given how tough the Patriots schedule has been thus far. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck still has issues throwing down the field, and it looks like they'll be without wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and maybe even tight end Jack Doyle. Dealing with all of that on a short week? Yikes! Also, the Patriots are the only double-digit favorite in Week 5.
