There are very few things more important to a fantasy team than its star wide receiver, but picking the right one can sometimes be a challenge. Particularly when its a matchup between an established star like Odell Beckham Jr. and an up-and-coming star like Michael Thomas. Thomas is a big piece of a high powered offense in New Orleans while Beckham is the No. 1 guy in New York.

Both are great NFL receivers, but who's the better play in Week 4 as the Giants take on the Saints?

Let's first look at their production over three weeks:

Odell Beckham Jr.: 34 targets, 24 receptions, 271 yards

Michael Thomas: 40 targets, 38 receptions, 398 yards, 3 touchdowns

Right now, Thomas blows away Beckham (and everyone else in the NFL) in raw production. Brees throws to him early and often and he's on pace for over 200 receptions, which would obliterate the NFL record of 143. He's been unbelievable and if we were only using seasonal stats to make our decision Thomas would be the easy pick.

What evens the playing field is the fact that the Saints have the 31st ranked passing defense through three weeks while the Giants are ranked around 14th. So statistically, Odell is primed for a better game than Thomas.

Beckham has played the Saints twice in his career, averaging 8 receptions for 108 yards and 1.5 touchdowns, while Thomas has played the Giants once and had 4 receptions for 56 yards his rookie season.

Still, it's impossible to ignore the statistical destruction that Thomas has put on so far this season and that's what gives him the slight edge over Beckham. No matter the quality of the defense, we know that Drew Brees will put up some stats and most of those stats are going to go to Michael Thomas.
