Let the college football hype train begin!
The first AP Top-25 Poll is fresh off the presses and so are the hopes for a handful of its most overrated teams.
If your team is on this list, just know you've been warned.
3. Michigan State Spartans (#11)
Sorry Sparty, but I'm not buying it. Sure, Michigan State finished the 2017-18 season stronger than most expected, with fluke wins over then-Top-10 Penn State and Michigan in rainy games that unfolded to their advantage. But their 48-3 loss to Ohio State, 38-18 loss to Notre Dame and 39-31 loss to Northwestern tell a much more accurate tail of what their talent looks like heading into 2018.
2. Georgia Bulldogs (#3)
Don't get me wrong, Georgia made a huge leap last year and showed off the metal of their recent recruiting classes in the National Championship game. But 2018 will prove an entirely different season without Nick Chubb and Sony Michel on offense or Roquan Smith on defense. The Bulldogs also lost their hopeful replacement at RB in Zamir White to an ACL tear. Plus, the Bulldogs play in this little neighborhood called the SEC. So, it's hard to see Georgia beating Auburn and Alabama (presumably in the conference championship game) to retain that No. 3 spot when it's all said and done.
1. Wisconsin Badgers (#4)
I hope Wisconsin knows it actually has to beat whichever comes out of the Big Ten East to earn a Top-3 ranking and spot in the college football playoff. The Badgers have given us every reason not to trust them as a College Football Playoff program the past four years, because they simply can't seem to beat a real one. The Badgers are, and will continue to be, a perennial Top-6 and 'just-missed-the-cut' type of team until they show us a reason to believe otherwise. Don't hold your breath.
