The San Francisco 49ers continue to bolster their secondary this offseason with the latest free agent signing. The 49ers added former Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson, as reported by Adam Schefter on Monday morning.

Jefferson, a 7-year NFL veteran, has been sidelined since tearing his ACL in the 2019 season. The terms of the contracts have not yet been released, but this signing is a smart gamble to add veteran depth to the 49ers' secondary.

Injuries ravaged a San Francisco team that finished a disappointing 6-10 last season. The team heads into the 2021 season excited about the prospect of Jimmy Garoppolo mentoring Trey Lance at quarterback as well as a revitalized and healthy defensive unit that led this team to a 2019 Super Bowl appearance.

Jefferson spent three seasons in Baltimore, including 25 starts when healthy while racking up 2 interceptions and 11 passes defended. Prior to that, Jefferson spent four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, also recording 2 interceptions and 11 passes defended.

With health as a priority entering the 2021 campaign, Jefferson presents an affordable, veteran presence to bolster the depth of this secondary. Currently, the 49ers own +1300 odds to win the 2021 Super Bowl, according to the latest NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
