Trey Lance Underperforming in Key Area Early at Training Camp

There's a huge spotlight on San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance at training camp. Not only did the 49ers trade up to draft him No. 3 overall, but many are watching to see if he will unseat incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco.
Lance has already earned positive reviews, though he hasn't been perfect at camp so far.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows claims that Lance's late-game management "needs work." The rookie had a slip-up in Tuesday's practice where he extended a play with the clock running down and the team failed to get another snap off before time expired.
A clear error like that -- which ultimately falls on Lance's shoulders -- certainly isn't ideal. However, it also comes with the territory of a first-year signal-caller. The consensus coming into the draft was that Lance would need some seasoning before taking over as starter, and he'll get valuable reps in camp plus the preseason to work out the early kinks.
Jimmy G remains the clear favorite to be the starter for this championship-hopeful roster in Week 1. San Francisco is tied for the fifth-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +1400, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
