The Oklahoma Sooners have one of the richest histories in college football, and that of course makes their quarterback position one of the marquee spots in the nation. Some of the best seasons in Sooner football history came in eras that didn't see much passing, but they've also produced some outstanding quarterbacks more recently.

With that in mind, here are the three greatest quarterbacks in Oklahoma history. Note that this largely taking into account time spent at Oklahoma, so a guy like Troy Aikman, who was a Sooner for two years before breaking out at UCLA, doesn't make the list.

3. Sam Bradford (2007-09)

The 2008 Heisman Award winner, Sam Bradford led Oklahoma to the national championship game in 2008, throwing for a huge 4,720 yards and 50 touchdowns. Those 50 scores are tied for the fifth-best single-season mark in NCAA history. Injuries limited Bradford to just three games as a junior in 2019, not giving him the longevity to move further up these rankings.

2. Landry Jones (2009-12)

Landry Jones had all the longevity you can in college, playing four seasons as the Sooners' starting QB. Oklahoma was not shy about slinging the rock during Jones' tenure, and he put up a massive 2,183 passing attempts, which is over 1,000 more than anyone else in school history. Unsurprisingly, he also shattered the all-time Oklahoma passing record, and his 16,646 yards were, at the time, over double the No. 2 mark. He is still No. 1 to this day, with a 4,354-yard lead on second place.

1. Baker Mayfield (2015-17)

That No. 2 passer on the list is Baker Mayfield, who racked up his 12,292 yards in three seasons after transferring over from Texas Tech. He also ranks No. 2 in school history in passing touchdowns, and his 119 scores come very close to Jones' 123. And if we factor in rushing touchdowns, Mayfield's total jumps to 137 — setting the school record ahead of Jones' 126 while playing one fewer season. Mayfield holds the first, third and sixth-highest single-game passing yardage totals in school history, and his 7-touchdown game in 2016 against Texas Tech is also a school record. It's not just counting stats for Baker, either. His 189.4 quarterback rating is the highest for any player with at least 400 career passing attempts in Oklahoma history.
