The New York Yankees had planned to start Jameson Taillon in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Guardians on Monday night. That was, until, the game was postponed to Tuesday afternoon because of rain. Now, with the extra day of rest in hand, the Yankees are going to Game 2 starter Nestor Cortes in Game 5 of the ALDS.

However, before this second rain out, Cortez was scheduled to start Game 1 of the ALCS if the Yankees were to reach it. Now, that job is going to Taillon.

While he might not be the most talented pitcher on the roster, Taillon is definitely the most fresh. Even Luis Severino, who started Game 3 of the ALDS would be pitching on short rest in an ALCS Game 1. You have to assume Severino is a legitimate option for Game 2 of the ALCS should the Yankees make it there.

While this is all important to think about, it's a moot point if the Yankees fail to make it past the Guardians in Game 5 of the ALDS. They are currently -180 favorites to win, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds.
