Vikings' Trade Offer to Panthers for No. 8 Pick Revealed
This year's talented 2021 quarterback draft class tempted some teams, like the San Francisco 49ers, to move up and select a possible QB of the future. One team rumored to be exploring a trade up in the first round was the Minnesota Vikings, who could've nabbed a top signal-caller or offensive tackle.
It turns out Minnesota approached the Carolina Panthers about a trade up to No. 8 in the draft, and we now know what the Vikings offered.
In a draft YouTube series released by the Panthers, it shows Minnesota offering picks No. 14, No. 90 and No. 143 in hopes of enticing Carolina enough to step down from the top 10. However, the Panthers stood pat and took top cornerback Jaycee Horn with the eighth overall pick.
It's intriguing to know that Minnesota was eager to move up to No. 8 for a chance at drafting either Ohio State QB Justin Fields or Northwestern OT Rashawn Slater. Fields ultimately went at 11 to the division-rival Chicago Bears, and Slater was taken one pick ahead of the Vikings at No. 13 by the Los Angeles Chargers.
That led to Minnesota eventually trading down with the New York Jets and nabbing Virginia Tech OT Christian Darrisaw at No. 23.
The Vikings ultimately beefed up their O-line and even snagged a quarterback in the third round in Kellen Mond. But it's interesting to wonder what would've happened if they pulled off a move up with Carolina.
