Throughout the NFL's offseason, the Minnesota Vikings have been at the center of a lot of headlines thanks to the team's low COVID-19 vaccination rate. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been one of the most outspoken NFL players regarding his stance against vaccinations. And, no matter where fans fall on the issue, it's created headaches for head coach Mike Zimmer and his staff.

The league did not enforce a vaccination mandate for its players in 2021, but lays out much stricter rules surround unvaccinated players. With that in mind, the Vikings have taken a serious and unique approach to helping improve the team's vaccination rates.

NFL Vaccination Rates

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on Monday that Zimmer and his staff will bring in a "renowned" epidemiologist and infectious disease expert, Dr. Michael Osterholm, to speak to the team. The hope is to provide some more information to players and result in an uptick in the team's vaccination rates.

Aside from the health and safety effects of getting vaccinated, the NFL will make it easier on team's with close to or full vaccination rates. And, at the end of the day, this league is all about winning and hoisting that Super Bowl trophy at the end of the year.

This situation is worth keeping an eye on. After all, the Vikings are hopeful to improve upon a disappointing 7-9 record in 2020 and avoid their third missed postseason in the past four years. The Vikings own -106 odds to make the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
