The Minnesota Vikings are still reeling from their surprisingly early playoff exit, but that won't stop the front office from business as usual. With a 13-win season in tow, Minnesota should have big expectations for 2023 and beyond.
And team GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah wants to make sure superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson is here for the long term.
According to reports, the front office is already taking steps towards his contract extension.
Adofo-Mensah indicated the front office has had "initial dialogue" with Jefferson's agent regarding an extension.
Jefferson's rookie deal means he won't hit unrestricted free agency until 2025. But on the heels of his third consecutive season with at least 1,400 receiving yards (not to mention leading the league with 128 receptions and 1,809 yards in 2022), you need to get this process started early.
Arguably the best wideout in all of football, Jefferson will get a hefty paycheck when his free agency rolls around. The Vikings are hopeful to get a marginal discount by locking up his extension before then, but the price tag will still be lofty.
