The New York Mets are going through a rough stretch, at least by comparison to their feverish start to the 2022 season. New York has been simply average in the month of June with an 8-6 record and sees the Atlanta Braves closing their division lead from 10.5 games to just 4.5.

What's worse is the injuries. The Mets' rotation has two Cy Young names on the injured list in Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom. Concerns arose on Thursday night when another talented arm, Tylor Megill, left his start after just 3.1 innings of work.

Megill underwent an MRI on his pitching shoulder on Friday and the results are brutal.

Tylor Megill Injury Update

Mets insider Tim Britton reported that Megill has been officially placed on the IL with a right shoulder strain. He'll also be shut down for four weeks before any sort of further evaluation.

The shoulder injury might explain Megill's up-and-down season. He was off to a brilliant start, pitching to a 1.93 ERA across five starts in the month of April. Megill came back down to earth as his ERA ballooned to 5.01 thanks to a pair of 3.1 innings outings, and one start where he allowed eight runs in 1.1.

Scherzer isn't expected to return to the rotation until late-June, leaving the Mets down an important rotation spot for at least the next couple of weeks.

For now, New York still holds +750 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook. A continued stretch of .500 baseball will hurt their chances, however.
