The Miami Dolphins have been linked to trade rumors involving Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson all offseason. Those rumblings are heating up again as the regular season approaches, which puts incoming starter Tua Tagovailoa in a difficult position.
Head coach Brian Flores recently gave his support of Tagovailoa, and the QB clearly appreciated the backing.
Tagovailoa said Flores' vote of confidence "means a lot." The head coach left no room for interpretation when he restated that the second-year signal-caller is the team's starter this season.
"The support that I have from him and from the team, it means a lot. But for me, I'm just focused literally on trying to get our guys ready for next week."- Tua Tagovailoa
It's clear Tagovailoa's job as QB1 is on the line in 2021. Miami has the combo of draft assets and talent to swing a deal for any star quarterback that hits the market, so it's up to the Alabama product to prove he's worthy of being a franchise player.
To his credit, Tagovailoa has taken all of the criticism and trade speculation in stride this offseason. Now it's on him to impress on the field.
The Dolphins own +118 odds to make the playoffs this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
