Trey Lance and the San Francisco 49ers had one of the more underwhelming Week 1 performances in their 19-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Rains and gusting winds played a big role in the loss, however, the 49ers better buckle up because they aren't in the clear just yet.
The Athletic's David Lombardi reports that the weather forecast isn't looking great for San Francisco's Week 2 home matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. As it stands, there's currently an 84% chance of rain for Santa Clara, CA on Sunday.
Seahawks vs 49ers Weather
If the rain wasn't bad enough on its own, it's expected to get a bit chilly in Santa Clara. Accuweather calls for a high of just 66 degrees with a low of 58 on Sunday. For reference, Accuweather also lists 81 degrees as the average temperature in Santa Clara on Sept. 18 over the years.
While there isn't expected to be as much rain as there was in Chicago last week, it'll be interesting to see how the 49ers handle the elements. They only racked up 331 total yards (155 passing, 176 rushing) against the Bears.
Teams tend to run the ball more in the rain, which could be tougher for the 49ers to do with starting running back Elijah Mitchell sidelined. Backup RB Jeff Wilson Jr. isn't nearly as talented as while they could increase wideout Deebo Samuel's backfield touches, the last thing they need is to overwork him and risk injury.
And, of course, Lance must have a better — regardless of how bad the weather is. He only went 13-of-28 (46.6%) on his passes last week, throwing an interception without a touchdown. If he has another poor showing, don't be shocked when fans call for Jimmy Garoppolo to take over under center.
Seahawks vs 49ers Odds
Despite potentially facing poor weather in back-to-back weeks, oddsmakers have faith in the 49ers to score a Week 2 victory. They're currently available as 8.5-point home favorites over the Seahawks on FanDuel Sportsbook.
