The Detroit Tigers are off to a poor offensive start to the 2021 season averaging just 3.44 runs per game (T-No. 28 in the MLB). They currently have a 7-11 record, but could receive a boost on offense as it looks like veteran first baseman Miguel Cabrera will return sooner rather than later.

Miguel Cabrera Injury Update

The powerful hitter suffered a strained left bicep injury while fouling off a pitch in an early April game. Cabrera has been rehabbing all month and has now begun taking live batting practice, too. Manager AJ Hinch said that the team will reevaluate him over the weekend.

This is definitely a positive sign and a step in the right direction for a player that is vital to this Detroit lineup. This is Cabrera's 14th season with the Tigers and he has racked up 350 home runs, 1,209 RBI and 1,010 runs scored over that span. He also won back-to-back AL MVP awards in 2012-13.

It looks like Cabrera could rejoin the starting lineup as early as the beginning of next week, but this isn't a situation in which the team needs to rush him back. The Tigers will look to string some wins together this weekend when they take on the Kansas City Royals at home in a four-game series.
