THE PLAYERS Championship Fantasy Golf Picks for 2020 Tournament

THE PLAYERS Championship is one of the most sought-after titles on the PGA Tour. Widely regarded as golf's unofficial "fifth major", it's an event that always delivers a top-notch entry list and plenty of exciting moments, especially with the famed 17th hole island green — arguably the most recognizable hole in golf.
Let's take a look at some golfers to watch out for when putting together your fantasy team for this week.
An epic finish.

Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy is the favorite here for a reason. Not only is he the defending champion, but he also has been tearing it up this season. Already grabbing six top-10 finishes this year and three top-3 finishes (including a win at the WGC-HSBC Champions), McIlroy is playing some of the best golf of his career to start off the season. He is currently No. 2 on tour in driving distance, No. 2 in holes per eagle and No. 1 in scoring average. Additionally, Rory's iron play has been fantastic, he ranks No. 18 in greens in regulation (GIR), which should be a huge asset at a course that requires great ball striking.
Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson has always been solid in this event. Mister consistency here, Johnson hasn't missed a cut at THE PLAYERS since his first appearance in this event in 2008. He only has two top-10 finishes this season, but over his last three years at this event, he has finished T-17, T-12 and T-5, respectively. Johnson is the only guy on tour better than McIlroy in holes per eagle. As long as his ball striking is in a good spot this week, Johnson could very well be a top the leaderboard come end of the day Sunday.

Webb Simpson
Webb Simpson has become known as one of the PGA Tour's best ball strikers. He also has shown his dominance on this course in the past with a wire-to-wire win at Sawgrass in 2018. Simpson's incredible ball striking is proven by his No. 7 ranking in GIR. He also ranks No. 1 in birdie average, No. 2 in scoring average and No. 11 in sand save percentage. Additionally, Simpson has had a great start to the year, grabbing four top-1 finishes, three top-3 finishes and one win at the Waste Management Open. This course is a place he thrives and comes in playing some great golf, if things stay the same for Simpson, don't be surprised if he becomes a repeat winner.
