Ten-day contracts can be a really useful tool for NBA teams this time of year. It gives teams the chance to try out a player without making a huge commitment and can also be an opportunity to bring on some short-term depth when injuries pop up.
The San Antonio Spurs apparently liked what they saw from veteran center Gorgui Dieng, as they are signing him to a second 10-day contract after his initial one expired.
San Antonio Spurs News
This is Dieng's 10th season in the NBA after a stellar career at the University of Louisville. He has appeared in 14 games so far this season for San Antonio, averaging 3.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in just under 11 minutes per night.
Dieng had two seasons earlier in his career where he averaged double-digit points, but for much of his career he's been more of a defensive role player and backup.
With plenty of depth at center, the Spurs could be taking a good look at Dieng ahead of next month's trade deadline in case they have an opportunity to gain some future assets by dealing someone ahead of him on the depth chart like Jakob Poeltl or Zach Collins.
