Seahawks Rookie Emerging As Potential O-Line Starter

For late-round draft picks, the training camp and preseason period is the most important time of their football careers. That goes for offensive tackle Stone Forsythe, whom the Seattle Seahawks took in the sixth round of the 2021 draft.
Despite his late-round selection, a flurry of injuries and one contract hold-out has offered the former Florida Gator a ton of opportunities in practice. Forysthe is making the most of these opportunities, according to all of the reports, and appears primed to potentially steal a Week 1 starting job.

Stone Forsythe Seahawks
The Seahawks' offensive line left a lot to be desired last season as it gave up 3.0 sacks per game, which is tied for the fifth-highest average in the NFL. Duane Brown is awaiting a restructured contract and Seattle has seen three other potential starters (Cedric Ogbuehi, Jamarco Jones and Tommy Champion) battle injuries early in camp.
As a result, Forsythe has worked mainly with the top offensive unit and head coach Pete Carroll has offered nothing but rave reviews.
“He’s been battling the whole time, he’s got a really good mentality, he’s tough, he’s smart. He doesn’t say anything, he just wants to know his job and get it done."
- Pete Carroll on Stone Forsythe
This is surely a good sign for the young tackle. Forsythe fell on draft night thanks to some concerns in his run-blocking. He's great in pass-blocking schemes and was a workhorse at Florida, appearing in 40 games with 28 starts across his final three seasons.
Seattle needs to improve their O-line play to improve upon their early Wild Card exit in 2020. Forsythe looks to fight for that starting role. But, at the very least, he appears likely to make the roster heading into the season.
