The New Orleans Saints got good news on Tre'Quan Smith on Tuesday, but that doesn't mean they're suddenly flush with wide receiver talent.
With Michael Thomas on the shelf and Deonte Harris facing suspension for his DUI, the Saints are desperate for wide receiver help.
How desperate are they? They're "signing Kevin White" desperate.
There was a time where adding Kevin White would be exciting. After all, he was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Of course, since that selection he has missed two full seasons (2015 and 2019) and has racked up a total of 25 NFL receptions.
The 29-year-old is one of the biggest wide receivers busts in recent memory, and he hasn't even caught a pass since December 30, 2018.
There's no guarantee that White even makes the final 53-man roster, but the fact that the Saints are signing him now, even after the first round of training camp cuts, is a big red flag.
And from White's perspective, this is probably the ideal landing spot. Tre'Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway and Chris Hogan are probably the team's top three wideouts with Thomas and Harris out. To see the field in four-WR sets, White would only to beat out the likes of Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Tommylee Lewis.
If he can't do that, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see White hang up his cleats.
With so much offensive uncertainty, the Saints are +110 underdogs to make the playoffs according to NFL odds from FanDuel Sportsbook.
