Saints' Starting QB Plan for 2021 Season Revealed

New Orleans Saints mainstay Drew Brees finally announced his retirement on Sunday, marking the end of an era. Now, New Orleans must figure out who will fill Brees' shoes as its starting quarterback in 2021.
The Saints' plan to find their next starter has been revealed.
It's no secret in New Orleans they like Jameis Winston and want to bring him back. The two sides are working on getting a deal done, per sources. This would not mean Winston is the starter if it gets done, it was explained to me, this will be a quarterback competition at camp.

Despite Taysom Hill being under contract, the team has made its interest in bringing back Jameis Winston known. Although the team is still trying to get under the cap, they're in talks with Winston, and if he does end up back in New Orleans, a competition between the two backups will take place for the role of starter.
Although Hill seemingly won head coach Sean Payton's favor by starting four games when Brees was injured in 2020, it doesn't sound like he's got any kind of advantage when it comes to the 2021 season. Hill has stated his desire to be a starting QB, but Payton is making him earn the gig.
With the Saints wanting to bring back Winston, it's clear they aren't sold on Hill just yet. Winston has his own drawbacks as a player, but putting the two in competition with each other will hopefully push one QB to prove they're worthy of succeeding Brees.
