Saints Get Amazing Injury Update on Recent Free-Agent Signing

The New Orleans Saints made a splash in free agency on Tuesday by signing safety Marcus Maye in an attempt to upgrade their secondary. Fans had a right to be worried about the Achilles injury he suffered in November, but all signs point to the five-year pro being ahead of schedule in his recovery.

There's a possibility Maye is even cleared by the start of training camp in late July. That is the best news Saints fans could've been hoping for. The 29-year-old ballhawk is set to join Marshon Lattimore on a defense that already posted the fourth-best pass defense DVOA rating in the NFL last season.

Maye has been nothing short of dominant when he is healthy and out of the field. He has racked up 134 tackles (8.0 for loss), 3.0 sacks, 13 pass breakups and 2 interceptions over the last two seasons (22 games played). He has proven he can play shutdown coverage and step up in rush defense, too.

It's important to note that Maye could end up facing a suspension to start the 2022 season due to some troubles off the field. Nevertheless, the Saints locked down the Florida product on a three-year deal worth $28.5 million. He's going to play a big role on a New Orleans team looking to return to the playoffs.

That road to the postseason got much harder when quarterback Tom Brady un-retired to rejoin to Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month. All things considered, the Saints have odds set at +2800 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
