The Philadelphia Phillies head back to Houston in a 3-2 hole and in need of back-to-back victories to win their first World Series title since 2008. Keeping the Astros hitters from making an impact at the plate will be crucial and manager Rob Thomson recently revealed what exactly his pitching plans are.
Philadelphia Phillies News
Thomson confirmed that Zack Wheeler will start in Game 6. The Phillies ace allowed 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 5.0 innings back in Game 2. He was bothered by a bit of arm fatigue, but all went well during his bullpen session on Thursday. It'll be interesting to see if his velocity is up on Saturday.
Wheeler's leash is not going to be too long with the season on the line, though. Thomson explained Ranger Suarez will be available out of the bullpen if a situation arises in which he is needed. The 27-year-old made the Astros look foolish in Game 3, allowing no runs on 3 hits and 1 walk in 5.0 innings.
Whether or not Suarez appears in Game 6 will determine who is on the mound in Game 7. Suarez would draw the start on full rest if he does not need to pitch on Saturday. Otherwise, Aaron Nola will be ready to go on short rest after giving up 3 runs on 7 hits across 4.0 innings in Game 4 (67 pitches).
Of course, all of the Phillies' attention is being paid toward winning Game 6 right now. Philadelphia is slated as a +126 underdog on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Thomson's squad also has odds set at +450 to take bring the World Series trophy back to its fans in Pennsylvania.
