Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Manuel Margot was in the middle of a tremendous performance against the Cleveland Indians on Monday before a bit of bad luck. After reaching first base on an infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning, Margot exited the game with a hamstring injury. For Rays fans hoping it's nothing serious, it's certainly not shaping up that way.

The Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reported on Tuesday that the Rays are expected to place Margot on the injured list. While the severity of his injury is unknown, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Manuel Margot Injury Update

Losing Margot — who was 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs in the win against Cleveland on Monday — will be a blow for the Rays. The 26-year-old outfielder has recorded 9 home runs and 44 RBIs, slashing .252/.297/.404 along the way. Another thing that Tampa will miss out on is Margot's base-running with his 9 stolen bases in 2021.

Nevertheless, Margot's injury could give an opportunity for someone else to step up. Topkin lists highly-touted prospect Vidal Brujan as one option. The 23-year-old IF/OF has 49 hits for 11 doubles, 9 home runs and 29 RBIs in 189 ABs with Triple-A Durham. With how well SS Wander Franco has performed since Tampa called him up, there's at least some possibility that the club will give Brujan the same opportunity.

Losing Margot will, no doubt, hurt the Rays' chances of catching the Boston Red Sox for the AL East lead. The Red Sox currently sit 4.5 games ahead of the Rays for the division lead, with FanDuel Sportsbook expecting things to remain that way at -210 odds. Meanwhile, Tampa's AL East odds sit at +360.
