Rays Call Up Concerning Right-Handed Pitcher

The Tampa Bay Rays currently lead the AL East, but are doing whatever they can to hold off the surging New York Yankees, who have whittled Tampa's lead down to just 4.0 games as of Friday night.
After a four-game sweep of the lowly Baltimore Orioles, Tampa lost a tight game to the Chicago White Sox in 11 innings on Friday night. And the injury bug has hit their bullpen a bit.
Tampa has closer Pete Fairbanks, as well as J.P. Feyereisen and Matt Wisler all on the 10-day IL right now. This promoted a call up of David Hess. Although when you take a look at Hess' numbers for this season, it becomes a bit of a head scratcher because they would not indicate he could bring about a positive effect.

Hess had a 8.00 ERA In 14 appearances with the Marlins this season, to go along with a putrid 1.89 WHIP.
Tampa has always prided itself on finding diamonds in the rough and making the most out of an extremely low payroll, but Hess doesn't seem to fit that bill, and the move almost makes Tampa look desperate.
We will wait and see what Hess does with the Rays if he gets an opportunity. A change of scenery sometimes helps a guy, but if history is any indication, he will be providing more harm than help to this Rays relief staff.
Tampa is currently +440 to win the American League, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds, which is third-best.
