The Tampa Bay Rays continue their efforts to keep pace with the red-hot New York Yankees but still trail their division rivals by 4.5 games in the AL East standings. That's despite the seven-game winning streak earlier this month and a solid 20-14 overall record.
Unfortunately, the Rays lost one of their best hitters to an untimely injury on Sunday.
Tampa Bay announced Manuel Margot will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Manuel Margot Injury Update
Margot exited Saturday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning.
It's unclear the exact severity of Margot's injury, but he'll be on the shelf for at least the next 10 days.
Margot is, by far, the hottest hitter on a Rays lineup that ranks tied for fourth in the American League at 4.21 runs scored per game. He's the only everyday starter hitting over .300 with his impressive .348/.412/.500 through 27 games. Add in 21 RBIs, 5 stolen bases, and electric defense, and the reigning AL Player of the Week is a big loss.
Tampa Bay will try to keep their month of May rolling (8-5) with a rubber game against the Blue Jays on Sunday. They then play two series against sub-.500 teams in the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds show Tampa Bay at +2000 to win the 2022 World Series.
