Coaches have been asked time and time again about the possibility of quarterback Colin Kaepernick making his way back into the NFL. Rarely has the question been brought up to owners, though. Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis weighed in the idea during a recent interview with Monte Poole.

Davis gave a supportive answer that was based around the fact the he believes in Colin Kaepernick. Of course, the former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller has been out of the league since 2016 and his decision to protest during the National Anthem has certainly played a role in his current absence.

“He deserves every chance in the world to become a quarterback in the National Football League. I still stand by it. If our coaches and General Manager want to bring him in or want him to be the quarterback on this team, I would welcome him with open arms.”

Mark Davis on Colin Kaepernick

It's interesting to hear Davis speak on the possibility of Kaepernick ever joining the Raiders given the team's current backups are Garrett Gilbert and Nick Mullens. Those two quarterbacks have combined for a 5-14 record during their careers and thrown 27 touchdowns compared to 23 interceptions.

The only thing that would get in the way here is that Kaepernick has been adamant as of late about his want for the opportunity to earn a starting spot. He's willing to come in as a backup, but believes he'll earn the starting spot. Las Vegas starter Derek Carr was recently signed to a massive extension, so it is clear that he is locked in as the franchise's leader for years to come.

If anything, Davis could get the ball rolling for Kaepernick by instructing the front office to sign him and allow him to play in the preseason. The 34-year-old would be able to put together enough tape to showcase his skills to other teams and really prove if he still has what it takes to start or not.
