While four MLB teams continue their intense battles with a trip to the 2022 World Series on the line, the rest of baseball is looking ahead toward the future. This includes the Texas Rangers, who must fill their open managerial role before any next steps.

Texas fired Chris Woodward back in August as his team limped towards a fourth-place finish and 68-94 overall record. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, one potential favorite has emerged in the franchise's early interview process.

Heyman reports that Rangers president Chris Young conducted an interview with Bruce Bochy and the "word is Young loves Bochy ever since he pitched for his Padres teams."

This refers to Bochy's first managerial gig in San Diego, dating back from 1995-2006. The former Manager of the Year went 951-975 during this 12-year tenure before the glory years with the San Francisco Giants. Young pitched for the Padres in 2006.

Bochy enjoyed his best run of success in San Francisco, a team he managed for 13 years. This included three World Series titles, a pair of NL West division titles and six years with at least 85 wins.

Texas hasn't played above .500 baseball since the 2016 season, and Bochy has the tools and experience to help turn things around. It's not a roster depleted of talent, either, after last offseason's big acquisitions for Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.
