The Pittsburgh Pirates took care of business on Thursday by signing centerfielder Bryan Reynolds to a two-year, $13.5 million contract. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the new deal will pay the 27-year-old $6.76 million in both the 2022 and 2023 MLB seasons.

One of the highlights of the new deal is the fact that it will help Reynolds and the Pirates avoid arbitration this year. He's still Super 2 eligible, which means that he's still arbitration-eligible for two more years before officially becoming a free agent in 2025.

Bryan Reynolds Contract

A second-round pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2016, Reynolds experienced a breakout during the 2021 MLB season.

The Baltimore, MD native saw 559 at-bats over 159 games with the Pirates last season, finishing with a personal-best 24 home runs, 90 RBIs and an MLB-leading eight triples while slashing .302/.390/.522. He was also named an All-Star for the first time before finishing 11th in National League MVP voting.

Although Reynolds has had a slow start to the 2022 season, he still has plenty of time to heat up. If he can figure out a way to replicate or even improve upon last year's success, the Pirates have every right to want to keep him under control for as long as possible.

Fans will have a chance to see Reynolds play under his new contract when the Pirates host the Washington Nationals on Thursday evening. As it stands, FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB Odds favor Pittsburgh to walk out with the victory as the -134 moneyline favorite.
