The Philadelphia Phillies' starting rotation was dealt a blow over the weekend when the club was forced to place right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler on the COVID-19 list. Although the Phillies have been dealing with bad news throughout the 2022 MLB season, the club received a positive update regarding Wheeler on Wednesday.

Zack Wheeler COVID Update

The Phillies have announced that Wheeler is ready to rejoin the club and will make his return in a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. That's great news for a Philadelphia team that's lost six of its last eight games.

After finishing second in NL Cy Young voting in 2021, Wheeler has had a rocky start to the 2022 MLB season. The 31-year-old has gone 1-3 in five starts this season with a 1.253 WHIP and 4.10 ERA.

It'll be interesting to see how he pitches against the Dodgers, who he has a 2-2 record with a 4.66 ERA against in five career starts. Los Angeles has the best winning percentage in the National Leage (.714) for a reason and it'll be a good test to see if Wheeler can pitch like his old self.

A strong performance in their series against the Dodgers could help re-establish the Phillies as a team to be taken seriously. Philadelphia is currently +2500 (No. 13) to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
