One week ago, the Philadelphia Phillies seemed like they had a pretty good shot at making the playoffs. At the time, Fan Graphs had them listed with the best odds to qualify for the 2021 postseason out of all NL East teams at 56.7%. Unfortunately, a rough week that saw them go 2-4 has the Phillies' playoff odds plummeting.
Now, Philadelphia's postseason odds sit at 41.5%, which ranks second in their division behind the Atlanta Braves (46.4%). With only 44 games left on their schedule, the Phillies clearly need to turn things around before it's too late.
Philadelphia Phillies Playoff Odds
One of the reasons why the Phillies struggled last week was because they couldn't produce runs. They've scored just 15 runs over their last six games, which ranks third-worst across the MLB in that span. To make matters worse, the Phillies' .197 batting average during that stretch is second-worst only to the Colorado Rockies (.196), which is not the type of team you want to be associated with at this stage of the season.
The good news for Philadelphia is that its schedule does get easier going forward. The Phillies will play 30 of their remaining 44 games against sub-.500 teams, which should give them an advantage in the divisional race if they can get back on track. With them having three more games against the Braves at the end of September, the NL East could be decided right at the end of the season.
However, despite Philadelphia's recent woes, there is a silver lining for fans and the team itself. While the Braves may have better odds on Fan Graphs, the Phillies have better odds to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Philadelphia's +3000 odds to win the championship rank 12th on the list while Atlanta sits a close 13th at +3200.
