After leading the Philadelphia Phillies past the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Wild Card round, it looks like interim manager Rob Thomson is going to stick around awhile.
On Monday, the Phillies made a decision on Thomson's future with the club by giving him a bit of job security.
Philadelphia Phillies News
Thomson is now officially the team's manager rather than the interim manager after taking over for Joe Girardi earlier in the season. He's also signing a two-year contract to remain with Philadelphia through the 2024 season.
After taking the Phillies to the postseason for the first time since 2011, Thomson certainly deserved to be rewarded. He also immediately turned around a team that was underperforming under Girardi, guiding them to a 65-46 record under his watch after a 22-29 start.
With the Cardinals out of the way, Thomson and his players now turn their attention to the Atlanta Braves with Game 1 scheduled for Tuesday. Philadelphia will need to get past the reigning World Series champs if they're going to make a championship run of their own and win their first title since 2008.
The Phillies enter the NLDS as +158 underdogs against the Braves on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds. Their World Series odds are currently listed at +1100.
