It' not hard to see that the Philadelphia Phillies have struggled to find any consistent production from the center field spot this season. As a result, the front office made a move to build some minor league depth at the position by trading for Dustin Peterson from the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Philadelphia Phillies News

The Phillies saw outfielders Mickey Moniak and Odubel Herrera go down injured in Spring Training. Since then, Matt Vierling and Simon Muzziotti have been splitting the playing time. Neither player has posted an on-base percentage over .250, though. That is just not going to cut it at the MLB level.

Peterson was the No. 50 overall draft pick back in 2013 and has seen a few stints in the major leagues. Overall, the 27-year-old owns a career slash line of .217/.265/.318 in 19 games played (49 plate appearances). Peterson has also racked up 4 doubles, 3 runs scored, 6 RBI and a stolen base.

Philadelphia has assigned Peterson to the Triple-A level, which is where he spent the entirety of last season with the Brewers. It's worthy to point out that he did walk at a career-high 9.1% rate and struck out in just 13.4% of his at-bats in 2021. He has posted similar results early in 2022 as well.

Peterson joins the ranks of Roman Quinn, Justin Williams, John Andreoli and Jorge Bonifacio in the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs outfield. A big showing throughout the season could eventually earn him a major league roster spot down the road, though. That makes him a name to keep an eye on in Philly.
