In one of the most anti-climactic signings in quite some time, the Chicago Bears inked quarterback Andy Dalton to a one-year deal. It was a fine move in a vacuum. But after months of speculation linking the team to stars like Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz, a Dalton-led offense was a tough pill for many Bears fans to swallow.
Bears fans will now have to hope to find a legit franchise QB in the 2021 NFL Draft. Thankfully, ProFootballFocus projects Chicago will land a really intriguing prospect with a mid-round pick.
Kellen Mond Bears
PFF has Chicago spending a third-round pick on Texas A&M star Kellen Mond. It's not the first-round prospect Bears fans are hoping for, but Mond has some really intriguing upside.
Mond was incredibly prolific during his time with the Aggies. He threw for 9,667 yards over his four-year career, adding 71 touchdown passes to 27 interceptions. Mond's a dual-threat, too, racking up 1,609 rushing yards and 22 TDs on the ground in his collegiate career.
Mond has pretty much all of the physical tools a QB needs. He might not be ready to step in and play right away, but few rookies really are, and his high-level traits give him legit upside at the NFL level.
For a team that has no long-term plan at the position, targeting a QB with as much arm talent and athleticism as Mond is a really smart gamble.
