Add the Carolina Panthers to a growing list of NFL teams revealing alternate helmets for the 2022 season. The team announced that a long-anticipated black helmet will be worn against the Atlanta Falcons during a Thursday night home game in Week 10. An all-black uniform will also be worn.

The pairing of the helmet design with the Panthers' color rush uniform will create an entirely new look for the team. A look fans have been wanting to see for quite a while. Defensive end Brian Burns noted that the defense is already nicknamed "The Dark Side", so the new helmets simply bring it all together.
“Sometimes guys tap into an alter ego depending on what they’re wearing. Whenever a team wears all black, or black accessories, it just brings out that dog in them, the evil side."- Brian Burns on Carolina's New Helmet
This is only happening because the NFL changed the rules this offseason, allowing a team to wear a second helmet along with alternate, classic and color rush uniforms. Some things remain mandated, though. That includes the chin straps, numbers and accent marks staying white for the Panthers.
It could be a crazy environment at Bank of America Stadium if the fans get in on the action by wearing black in the stands. A divisional game always means more to the players as they look to get a leg up on a familiar opponent. Carolina is 3-7 straight up against the Falcons since the 2017 season.
The Panthers have odds set at +410 to make the NFL Playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
