The Carolina Panthers are in search of a new offensive coordinator, but reports claim it will not be Pep Hamilton. The current Houston Texans' passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach has declined the opportunity to interview for the position, according to Aaron Wilson of Sports Talk 790.

Hamilton is going to be a sought after name this offseason given his recent run off success in the NFL. The 47-year-old helped guide quarterback Justin Herbert to winning the AP Offensive rookie of the Year Award in 2020 in what ended up as his only season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Texans then hired Hamilton in March and he has worked wonders for rookie Davis Mills. The rookie out of Stanford improved with each NFL start and threw 9 touchdowns compared to 2 interceptions over Houston's final five games. Keep in mind the Panthers will likely start a young QB starting in 2022.

The problem Carolina seems to be running into is that this offensive coordinator position may be looked at as a one-year stint. Head coach Matt Rhule remains on the hot seat after leading the Panthers to back-to-back 5-win seasons and could be on his way out if he can't turn things around.

Carolina's front office will aim to find a new OC capable of shaking things up on offense. Notable names that have already been in talks with team include former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, former Washington Football Team head coach Jay Gruden and current Vikings offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
