Now that the draft and most of the big flurries of free agency action have passed, ESPN has run their simulations to come up with their official 2020 NFL season projections. Unsurprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs are favored to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
There is a big surprise in the NFC North, though, as the Minnesota Vikings come in as ESPN's top team in the division, ahead of the Green Bay Packers.
Considering the Packers went 13-3 and earned a first-round bye in the 2019 season, this one has to sting for fans in Green Bay. Maybe it shouldn't be a huge surprise, though, as they weren't nearly as good as that record may have suggested.
Even though the Vikings lost some key free agents, their defense should still be solid, and they made some key additions in the draft. Their offense should keep rolling with most of the main pieces in place, too, as the only big loss was Stefon Diggs, who was replaced by an exciting first-round talent in Justin Jefferson.
ESPN doesn't have the division as a runaway by any stretch, but the Vikes are 13th in their power rankings with 8.6 projected wins. The Packers are 15th with 8.1 projected wins, and Green Bay is even sitting at just 43 percent to make the playoffs (compared to 54 percent for Minnesota).
That's got to have Vikings fans excited about the 2020 season.
