Spring Training is underway and the 2020 MLB season is rapidly approaching. There's been no shortage of drama this offseason, and baseball fans can breathe a sigh of relief now that we have games to focus on, and the on-field product is once again the center of attention.

The 2020 World Series race is wide open, but some early favorites stand out in the field: the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. Before anyone sets their sights on the World Series, though, teams need to focus on the regular season and take care of their division.

With that in mind, here is how industry experts see the National League West shaping up in 2020.

Picks to Win the National League West

Predictions from USA Today come from their panel of six experts, PECOTA projections come from Baseball Prospectus, and Clay Davenport (who co-founded Baseball Prospectus) projections come from his personal website. FanDuel Sportsbook win totals and odds to win the division are as of February 27, 2020.

USA Today: Los Angeles Dodgers
PECOTA: Los Angeles Dodgers
Clay Davenport: Los Angeles Dodgers
FanDuel Sportsbook Favorite: Los Angeles Dodgers

No team is a bigger betting favorite to win their division than the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it's no surprise that all three sources have them winning comfortably. It's the second spot in the division, and a potential NL Wild Card position, that makes things interesting in the NL West.

Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions 2020

USA Today: 99-63
PECOTA: 102-60
Clay Davenport: 102-60
FanDuel Sportsbook Win Total: 101.5
Odds to Win the NL West: (-1000)

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Dodgers with the highest win total in the MLB, with the line set one game higher than the New York Yankees'. Even still, two of the there sources like them to clear the over. Expectations don't get much higher than this, and anything shy of a World Series win would be a disappointing end to the season for LA.

Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions 2020

USA Today: 85-77
PECOTA: 80-82
Clay Davenport: 83-79
FanDuel Sportsbook Win Total: 84.5
Odds to Win the NL West: (+950)

The NL Wild Card race is going to be a competitive one. USA Today has three NL teams projected for 85 wins, which would put them in a tie for the second Wild Card spot. PECOTA and Davenport, however, have the Arizona Diamondbacks coming up well short of a playoff berth, projecting them for the ninth (PECOTA) and seventh (Davenport) most wins in the National League.

San Diego Padres Predictions 2020

USA Today: 83-79
PECOTA: 79-83
Clay Davenport: 85-77
FanDuel Sportsbook Win Total: 82.5
Odds to Win the NL West: (+1100)

The San Diego Padres are hoping to be competitive, but they may still be a year away. Two of the three sources do project them to finish over .500 (and to hit the over on their win total), and Davenport even has them finishing second in the NL West. That would have them tied for the second Wild Card spot in Davenport's projections, while the other two have the Padres missing the postseason for the 14th consecutive year.

Colorado Rockies Predictions 2020

USA Today: 72-90
PECOTA: 77-85
Clay Davenport: 73-89
FanDuel Sportsbook Win Total: 73.5
Odds to Win the NL West: (+7000)

The Colorado Rockies are a bit of a mess, and based on these projections they either need to commit to trying to push for a playoff spot or to accept their current fate and commit to a rebuild. These projections come in on both sides of their win total, but nobody has them coming particularly close to even a .500 finish.

San Francisco Giants Predictions 2020

USA Today: 70-92
PECOTA: 68-94
Clay Davenport: 64-98
FanDuel Sportsbook Win Total: 68.5
Odds to Win the NL West: (+10000)

The San Francisco Giants and their fans probably already know that a playoff berth isn't a realistic expectation in 2020, and it's no surprise that they're the unanimous pick to finish No. 5 in the division. PECOTA and Davenport also have the Giants coming away with the fewest wins in the entire National League this season.
