Get out of the way, batters. New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is mowing down hitters at historic levels, and the dominating performances have moved him to the top of the NL Most Valuable Player race halfway through the MLB season.

According to current National League MVP odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, deGrom is +115 to win the award over San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (+160) and Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (+450).

It's a three-man race, although 22-year-old Tatis is proving to be the most impactful everyday player for the NL contending Padres, who have 49 wins on the year.

Jacob deGrom is nearly a shoe-in to win his third Cy Young award, subject to injuries halfway through the season. The Mets ace is attempting to become just the 12th pitcher to win both the Cy Young and MVP award in the same season, joining all-time greats such as Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, Roger Clemens, Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax.

Despite a strong stat for Tatis Jr. that includes a .299 batting average, 26 home runs, 56 RBIs, 17 stolen bases and an MLB-best .697 slugging for the contending Padres, there is a hole in his game on defense with 17 errors at shortstop.

deGrom is putting up historic pitching numbers, and he's also been a threat at the plate with a .387 batting average going 14-for-31 with 6 RBIs for the NL East-leading Mets.

Here's a look at the updated odds for the NL MVP race on FanDuel Sportsbook.
