The Cincinnati Reds have dropped six of their last eight games, leaving fans desperately hoping for some good news.
Unfortunately, they got the opposite on Wednesday.
After being placed on the 10-day IL with knee inflammation on Friday, Nick Senzel will now have to undergo surgery. That's expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks.
Reds News: Nick Senzel Surgery
The 25-year-old Senzel has appeared in 36 games for the Reds in 2021, slashing .252/.323/.315. That's not a line to write home about, but with a 9.7% walk rate compared to a 12.9% strikeout rate, he's been reliable and shown some serious improvements from the dish relative to his first two big league seasons.
He's also been a plus fielder for the Reds, ranking 21st in the majors with a 91% success rate and generating one out above average, according to StatCast data.
The Reds are currently 4.0 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central, and with the bad news piling up, FanDuel Sportsbook gives them just +1100 odds to win the division in 2021.
