The NHL Playoffs are usually a nonstop thrill-ride once they get going. The only thing wilder is the battle to earn a ticket to the dance.

As it stands before All-Star Weekend, both the Eastern and Western Conferences have five teams within 10 points of the respective wild card spots. If we learned one thing from last year's insane first round, it's that anything can happen, but you have to be in the playoffs to have a shot at pulling off an upset.

Based on the Stanley Cup odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, there are no shortage of contenders in either conference.

In the East, the Philadelphia Flyers (+3600, 58 points) are one point back of the Carolina Hurricanes (+1700) and two back of the Columbus Blue Jackets (+6000) for a wild card spot. The odds in the conference stay fairly close right through the New York Rangers (+7000, 50 points) who have fallen nine points back.

The overachieving Blue Jackets' odds are surprisingly low considering their success, while a talented but underachieving Toronto Maple Leafs squad (+1600, 57 points) is still getting great odds. The New York Islanders (+1700, 61 points) and Florida Panthers (+3000, 59 points) are both currently positioned for a Divisional playoff berth, ranking third in their respective conferences.

In the West, the Pacific Division has been up for grabs the entire season. The Vancouver Canucks (+3000, 58 points) currently lead the pack, but the Arizona Coyotes (+1700, 57 points) still have the best odds after their acquisition of Taylor Hall.

Don't forget about the Calgary Flames (+2400, 57 points) who were the top seed in the West in 2019, and the Edmonton Oilers (+3000, 57 points) who have one of the league's best in Connor McDavid. Central Division hopefuls include the Dallas Stars (+1400, 58 points), Vegas Golden Knights (+1600, 57 points), and Winnipeg Jets (+3600, 54 points) among others.

The NHL playoff picture is far from set in stone at this stage, and this year should have another exciting race to the finish. On your marks!
