The weekend series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox has been a nice preview of MLB postseason baseball. So far, both sides have split the first two games and these American League juggernauts head into a pivotal rubber game on Sunday.
Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, they'll be without new slugger Nelson Cruz. According to reports, Cruz was a late scratch from Tampa Bay's lineup on Sunday after being placed on the COVID-19 injured list.
Nelson Cruz Injury Update
Reports confirm that Cruz is vaccinated. However, if he still tested positive for COVID-19, he'll likely be out for the next 10 days or so.
Cruz has been a dynamic source of offense since his blockbuster trade from the Minnesota Twins at the MLB's Trade Deadline. Since his first day in Tampa Bay on July 23, Cruz and his new squad have gone a scorching 18-9 in that span.
Tampa Bay holds a 4.0-game lead over the surging New York Yankees and are destined for their third straight postseason appearance. Better yet, in just 24 games, Cruz has already mashed 7 home runs and 18 RBIs. Across 162 games, that's good for a pace of 47 home runs and 121 RBIs.
The Rays will hope to get Cruz back and healthy in the lineup as soon as possible for their stretch run. By the odds, Tampa Bay owns +1100 odds to win the World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
