NBA Rookie of the Year Odds Have Ja Morant as Heavy Favorite Over Zion Williamson

There was a clear favorite in the NBA Rookie of the Year race before the season tipped off in October. First overall pick Zion Williamson was available at +125 odds to take home the award on FanDuel Sportsbook.
His injury-delayed start to the season combined with Ja Morant's outstanding play has shaken up the betting landscape significantly coming out of the All-Star break, though.

Ja Morant Rookie of the Year Odds
Ja Morant is a -700 favorite to take home the NBA Rookie of the Year award. The Memphis Grizzlies' first-round pick is averaging 17.6 points, 6.9 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 29.9 minutes per game on the season.
Morant and the Grizzlies won 15 of their last 20 before the All-Star break, and while they're 0-2 since, they would make the playoffs as the No. 8 seed in the West if the NBA postseason started today.

Zion Williamson Rookie of the Year Odds
Zion Williamson is second in the Rookie of the Year race, but as a +400 underdog, he is well behind Morant. If we convert those odds to implied probabilities, Morant is being given an edge of over 60 percentage points.
Zion has been fantastic in limited action, averaging 22.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 28.1 minutes per game. He's played in only 12 contests though, and he didn't make his season debut until January 22.
As we saw a few years ago, when Joel Embiid finished behind both Malcolm Brogdon and Dario Saric, being on the court is a significant factor in the award voting, and that makes Zion a long shot.
Only four other players check in with odds better than +5000: Michael Porter Jr. (+3500), Tyler Herro (+1800), Kendrick Nuun (+1600) and RJ Barrett (+1600).
This is really a two-player race, though, and Morant is running away with it.
