Cleveland Browns EDGE Myles Garrett continues to be one of the most impactful defensive players around the league. His hot start to the 2020 campaign had him in position to contend for Defensive Player of the Year, an award he's had his eye on since entering the league in 2017.
However, Garrett's season was put on pause midway through due to contracting COVID-19. It turned out to affect him for the rest of the year.
Garrett was forced to miss two games in November while on the COVID-19 list. But even after he returned, he didn't feel 100%.
"Athletically, I felt like I had it. Conditioning-wise, I felt like I was like 50%. I don't think I've ever had to use oxygen so frequently so early into a game. I think [it was my first game back Dec. 6 against] Tennessee, and I don't think I had like a huge amount of snaps, but I was like hanging on.- Myles Garrett
The Browns star was tearing through opposing front lines to begin the year. Through the first nine games, he racked up 9.5 sacks, 7 tackles for loss and 4 forced fumbles. Garrett had just 2.5 sacks and 3 tackles for loss in the five contests after coming back from his two-game absence, and Los Angeles Rams EDGE Aaron Donald went on to win DPOY.
The good news is that Garrett is feeling as good as new now at Browns OTAs. He'll once again lead a Browns defense that could be key to making Cleveland's Super Bowl hopes a reality in 2021.
