Mookie Betts Injury Update: Dodgers Slugger Set to Miss All-Star Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the National League with five 2021 MLB All-Stars, but one superstar will not be participating as outfielder Mookie Betts announced he will miss the game due to an injury. The five-time All-Star has been dealing with back and left shoulder trouble this year.

Betts was originally surprised about his selection to the All-Star game as he believes he is underperforming so far this year. He is in the midst of his worst season statistically since 2017, but the 2019 NL MVP runner-up is sure to bounce back over the second half of the season.

Overall, Betts is hitting .245/.352/.446 on the season to go along with 51 runs scored, 11 home runs and 33 RBI. He also currently leads the team in doubles (21) and ranks second with 7 stolen bases.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, this move seems to simply be a precautionary one and Betts' status moving forward does not seem to be in any doubt. The 28-year-old should slide back into his starting role atop the lineup when his squad gets back into action on Friday night against the Colorado Rockies.
