What happens over the next few weeks will determine whether the Texas Rangers will be buyers or sellers at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline. Losing games could make things go awry fast and insider Bradford Doolittle recently named the one Rangers player most likely to be dealt in that scenario.

Texas Rangers Trade Rumors

That one player is starting pitcher Martin Perez. Perez is set to be a free agent at the end of the season and lines up as the perfect rental for a contending team in need of additional depth. It helps that the 31-year-old is also pitching better than he ever has before in his 11-year career.

Perez has been a premier starter for manager Chris Woodward this season, posting a 4-2 record and 2.18 ERA across 12 starts. His WHIP stands at a career-low 1.10 mark and he has only allowed 2 home runs in 74.1 innings pithed. Perez put it all together with a complete game shutout on May 20.

There will be no shortage of teams calling Texas if Perez is said to be on the market. Early potential fits include the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants, though. Both squads are in the midst of a playoff race, yet currently rank outside the top 15 in team ERA and strikeouts per nine innings.

The one thing Perez has to do moving forward is keep showing consistency. He had his first poor outing of the year on Saturday, giving up 6 earned runs on 12 hits and 2 walks over 5.0 innings. Bouncing back in his next start is going to be vital to maintaining his current trade value.
